> Deadline Approaching - Student Taxes
The tax season is coming to a close, and in less than 15 days the deadline will have passed for all international students who have worked and earned an income to file their taxes with the Internal Revenue Service. If you did not work and did not earn anything during the last year you have up to June 15th - but you still have to file your taxes. Completing your tax return has been made easier with the new online tax system introduced this year. You can now do this yourself by registering with our online system, answering all the questions, and inputting your information. Then the system will prepare all your documents (pre-filled with your information) so that you can print them off and send them in. This month we feature a post from our forums that is asking about communications information such as how to call home, the cheapest long-distance calling from the UK, etc... "Hi all - I am a sophomore currently studying political science at Indiana University. I will be at the University of Kent all next year, so I am wondering what is the best way to keep in contact with my parents and family back in the state. I have skype, so that will be main way of contact via a microphone and webcam. However, I am wondering three things: 1. I can't live without a cell phone, but I don't use one all the time. What is the cheapest plan for local calls in the UK? 2. Calling home options... what is the cheapest way to call home? This would be mostly for emergencies and times when I can't be near my computer. 3. What is the cheapest way for my parents to call me? If you are anything like me, you will like this smashing site. I love to change my desktop wallpaper all the time and I am forever on the lookout for new and fantastic images to put as my background. Health and travel insurance for international students is a topic that you often hear about in this newsletter, as it is a requirement for most students and a good idea for everyone. This month there are two news stories reminding us of the importance of good international student health insurance, as well as one highlighting the success of Finnish education. First, the International Herald Tribune talks about a terrible tragedy that led one school to change its policy to require international student insurance: http://www.iht.com/ The Rebel Yell, the student newspaper for the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, tackles the issue of insurance as well.
